And now, a word from our sponsor…

Posted on December 15, 2008. Filed under: Culture, Games, Musings, Travel |

Part one of this post is sponsored by my friend, b0bbyg, erstwhile Media Studies student, more recently blog-novelist (bloggelist?). His tag is my command:

4 places I go over and over:

(1) Chorus rehearsal. What can I say; I like to sing!
(2) Science club meeting; ditto
(3) Saguaro National Park – The best hiking in the winter
(4) Trader Joe’s, the best food market

4 people who e-mail me regularly:

(I’ll pick two blog buddies, and two non-bloggies)

(1) thebeadden, to share updates on life, and support in situations.
(2) sulz is sensitive to when I’m challenged by something, and helps me then; and also sometimes asks my advice, which makes me feel good.
(3) My sister. She lives too far away to visit often. It was difficult to get her to use email at first, though.
(4) The president of my chorus board. Usually with things for me to do!

4 of my favorite places to eat:

(1) Quiznos (submarine sandwiches)
(2) Opa! (the best Greek food)
(3) Harvest Moon (my favorite Chinese food place)
(4) Shogun (Sushi!)

4 places you’d rather be NOW:

(1) In my bed as I’m getting sleepy
(2) The South of England
(3) A warm beach on Maui
(4) Anywhere with interesting architecture to observe. (But, in all truth, I really am quite content where I am!)

4 TV shows I could watch over and over:

B0bby, who tagged me, already used TWO of mine!

(1) Doctor Who
(2) Star Trek TOS
(3) Stargate SG1
(4) Red DwarfΒ  (do we notice a pattern?) πŸ˜‰

4 movies I could watch over and over:

(1) The Wizard of Oz
(2) The Sound of Music
(3) Somewhere in Time
(4) The Bishop’s Wife

4 people I hope will respond:

(1) thebeadden
(2) Poch
(3) Curious C
(4) Shane

And, sponsoring Post Part deux, are the bloggers thebeadden; Apar; and sulz, who have recently given me awards! I am humbled and amazed. And I’m instructed I must award these to other bloggers, as well:

I received this from Apar and from sulz. Since each of them thought I might be worthy of it; I’d better pay attention. Thank you both!

“The proximity award rewards bloggers who are not just on the lookout for quality posts, but truly care about the blogger behind the words; for investing and believing in proximity – nearness in space, time and relationships”

proximidade_blog_award

In our blogs, “nearness” is a relative term. Some of the people I feel “near” to are actually quite far away physically. A blogger I know who embodies these qualities is half a word away from me. I award this to Poonam, who deserved the award even before she invested so much time, energy, care, and love into designing and implementing an amazing blog awards program!

This one comes to me from thebeadden. It has a picture of an “eye”, and at least one of my eyes were a bit teary after I read her post.

The Eye Spy an Excellent Blog award goes to people β€œto let them know how much their words have touched you and made a difference in your life.”

Although I don’t comment as much as I might, because he is just so prolific in bringing us wisdom from many traditions, and concepts to ponder, and his unique take on worldwide teachings, I do read everything he writes, and Davidya has indeed touched me and made a difference in my life!

***Update, Tuesday: I just received an “Embracelet” (awww) from Kiran. Isn’t it nice? Thanks, Kiran:Β  friendship

Memes and awards remind me to take a step back; to remember how much I appreciate this community, and to allow the lighter side of consciousness to come out to play! I am grateful.

Yipee!! First to comment πŸ™‚
Congrats on your awards..well deserved I might add :D.
I like Trader Joe’s & Quiznos too πŸ™‚ I have not watched The Bishop’s wife..will try to now;) but the rest of the movies …yes they would feature in my list too πŸ˜€

me, help you?? sounds hard to believe! 😳 is quiznos like subway? we have shogun here in malaysia too, but not sure if they’re of the same chain.

i love the yodel song in the sound of music! πŸ˜€

Yipee! So, you get the “First to Comment” award, Apar! πŸ˜› Thank you for the award, and thanks for the nice things you said. I think you would like The Bishop’s Wife. Very romantic, and very meaningful, too. It has Cary Grant AND David Niven. I wonder if we ever went to the same Trader Joe’s. I went shopping with family I was visiting in central Long Island about 3 years ago. They’ve moved to New Jersey, now, so I don’t think I’ll be at the TJ’s on LI again. πŸ™‚

Yes, YOU, sulz! πŸ™‚ You have been very kind when I had a couple of “issues” recently. Quiznos is a lot like Subway. I like it just a little better ’cause everything is toasted. Of course you can get toasted at Subway now too. Your sandwich, I mean. πŸ˜‰ Our Shogun in Tucson is an independent restauant. They have great sushi, huge portions, and reasonable prices—what could be better? Oh, you mean with the goats and all? Yeah, that is very fun! πŸ˜€

Wow, thank you, Kiran! {note to readers: Kiran has given me a “Thank you for Friendship”.} I’m so blessed. I’ve put it up top; go see! πŸ˜€

Congratulations on the awards. I love your choice of TV shows. I love Red Dwarf. Your post got me to watch some Red Dwarf on You Tube. I’d forgotten how funny it was.

I did this meme a while ago. It was a fun one.

Congrats on your deserved awards, Muse! ‘Embracelet’…love it!

Great meme, too. I feel lost.
Never heard of:

Opa, Harvest Moon or Shogun. Ewwwwwww Sushi…

Red Dwarf, will have to look it up at you tube…

Haven’t watched: Somewhere in Time or The Bishop’s Wife

I agree with being in bed. Nothing better! Hiking… πŸ™‚

Sure, I’ll play and thanks for asking. πŸ™‚

You’re welcome Muse πŸ™‚

Congrats on your well deserved awards BTW! Great meme, and that reminds me, I have a meme overdue from Sulz πŸ˜›

Hey Muse! Congrats a million! and thanks for ‘expecting’ from me. I’m flattered.

Thank you for the link Muse. I don’t remember anything about a sponsorship deal though – did I pay you for this? πŸ˜›

That’s a very healthy and sensible list of places you visit! Hiking in winter sounds a bit unconventional – do you not go hiking in the summer, too?

Ooh, South of England. South East or South West?

Sorry for using your TV shows! There does seem to be a bit of a theme there. Looks like you’re a fan of classic movies, then. I’d never heard of Somewhere in Time until I looked it up – it sounds very interesting! I shall have to keep an eye out for it.

Congratulations on the awards! They are very well deserved, and very appropriate to you, I think.

Congrats on the awards Muse! Thank you for the tag! I’ll post mine up when I get a chance πŸ™‚

Saguaro National Park looks very awesome. I looked it up after reading your post, and sooo have to check it out next time I’m out in AZ.

Since you like Quiznos, I’ll have to suggest Firehouse Subs if there are any out your way yet πŸ™‚ I think they are close to the same, toasted subs, yum! πŸ˜€

Thank you, Joan! Oh, I keep forgetting to look for things on YouTube. I could use a dose of Lister and Rimmer; I’ll check out Red Dwarf there. I see Monty Python have their own channel now! This was a fun meme.

Thanks, BD! I shall strive to live up to the confidence placed in me. πŸ˜› Isn’t the “Embracelet” nice? I hadn’t seen it before Kiran’s blog. Well, you wouldn’t have heard of my restaurants, except for Subway, unless you had visited Tucson recently, as they’re all local places. Yum, sushi, yes! Even better than sprouts, if you can believe that! πŸ˜€ You may like Red Dwarf...but I have a feeling you might not, just knowing a bit about you! πŸ˜‰ I believe you would love the movies, however, they are classics, and just exquisite. Oh, goody, I see you’ve already done the 4-things meme, and a wonderful one it is, too. I’m glad you did!

It is fun to share and get to know a bit more about each other, isn’t it Kiran? I will make a point to read your meme from sulz. πŸ™‚ Thank you!

Thank you, and you’re welcome, pochp! I need to get over to your place and read more of your posts, they are insightful. I’ll look forward to your meme. πŸ™‚

Yes, you did, B0bby! In fact I already deposited your cheque in the bank, so I hope it’s good! πŸ˜› Thank you for encouraging my healthy ways. I do hike in the summer, but go for only short hikes near home, or travel to higher ground then. I know it’s puzzling to people that have normal weather, but to quote from the park’s site: “Summers can be extremely hot with daytime temperatures exceeding 105 degrees F. (41 degrees C.) in the shade…” That’s my desert! πŸ˜‰ Winter, on the other hand, can be beautiful for hiking. Although it can be cold; near or below freezing at times; there are many sunny, almost balmy days, too, and people come from cold places to be here! Oh, South of England—west of course! πŸ™‚ It would need to be a long trip though. I fancy seeing the Cotswolds and Cornwall and perhaps Torquay. And one must visit Bath and Glastonbury, and your area, naturally. No worries, I believe there is enough Who and Dwarf to go around. And you had Fawlty Towers, which very nearly made my list as well. Do see Somewhere in Time! And thanks for the congrats!

Thank you for the congrats, and you’re welcome for the tag, Shane! Yay, I’m glad you will do this; curious what you will answer. πŸ™‚ Oh, yes, if you come back to my lovely state, there are many wonders in the southern part you didn’t get to on your last trip. Saguaro Park is rather like hiking in Sedona, but it’s not red, like that. But it has all kinds of unusual vegetation to make up for it. Oh my goodness! I looked up Firehouse Subs, and those sandwiches made me hungry! There are only two in Arizona so far 😦 about 2 hours north of me, so I don’t know when I’ll get to try one. Perhaps they’ll come along to southern AZ soon! yum. πŸ˜€

Hey!
Thanks for the award – I believe its my first. And thanks for the support. Nice to hear. Glad my musings have had some value for you.

(2) The South of England

You do make me weep sometimes!!!!!!!!

There is only one place to visit while it is still a part of England – and that is Yorkshire! πŸ˜› LOL

PS. the south of England is very nice, but don’t tell ’em I told ya that!

Oh boy! CuriousC (IdeaJump)and thebeadden have done the 4-things meme! Go read, go read, they are both terrific!

Davidya (of in2deep), you are very welcome. Your writings are brilliant and are must reads for me. I value your friendship and camaraderie as well. πŸ™‚

Oh, Will, eight exclamation marks. That’s a lot of weeping! πŸ˜₯ Weep not, me lad, I would not go all that way without visiting Yorkshire as well. It’s just that I’d been to Yorkshire, and I used to sing a madrigal in school which included the line “…and to Cornwall we shall go…” so I’ve wanted to go ever since. I do wish to walk the moors again, and shall visit Yorkminster as you’ve recommended. πŸ˜€ {I’ll never tell}

Thank you so much, Muse! πŸ™‚

But truth remains it was you who bailed me out. I don’t think I will forget that. How is your health coming along?

You are welcome, and thanks for asking! I’m feeling very well now, everything is healing as it should. πŸ™‚

Congratulations, Muse. Your 4 places are 4 I’d happily travel to any day of the week. But here’s all I know about the TV shows: Chris Barrie was in Red Dwarf and I know that only because he starred in The Brittas Empire, a comedy people either loved or hated. I guess there were more in the latter group. 😦 He just destroys me, though.

I hope you’re really all right Muse. You’re still so quiet.

Merry Christmas, Muse.
An even better New Years!
And great big ((((hugs)))
Hope you are doing well.

Thank you, ella! How could I not know about that TV series? I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of British television; I can’t believe I missed this. Is it, just a little, like Fawlty Towers? I must; I shall check it out. It seems as if you would like Red Dwarf, too. You have a rather quirky sense of humor (that’s a compliment)!

I am quite well, poch, thank you! It’s a very busy week is all. I have a few drafts just needing to be polished a bit. Take care!

And to you, BD! Back atcha! Doing well…my work is busy this time of year, but I am finding time to party! and to meditate, and contemplate, too. Happiest of Holidays! πŸ™‚

Happy Holidays To All!

Thank you poch, and to you and your loved ones!

Specially to you Muse!
